California Youth Soccer Association
to host the US Youth Soccer
2012 National Presidents Cup

Sacramento's Cherry Island Soccer Complex will be the site
featuring Under-14 through Under-17 Boys and Girls

California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) announced today it has been named as host of the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, which is the culminating event for US Youth Soccer teams who have advanced from the state to regional to National Presidents Cup level. The event will be held July 11 - 15, at Cherry Island Soccer Complex.

The Presidents Cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to US Youth Soccer teams in which each US Youth Soccer State Association determines the path through which teams advance to the regional qualifiers.

The regional qualifiers determine the teams in the Under-14 through Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups that will advance to the National Presidents Cup.

Rob Martella, Director of Operations for US Youth Soccer wrote, “On behalf of the US Youth Soccer Board of Directors, I am delighted to inform you that at our recent meeting, Sacramento, California was selected as the site for the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup. CYSA Chairman Pete Zopfi said, "The hosting of the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup competition, along with hosting the USSF National Youth License, and the 2012 TOPSoccer symposium course in Northern California represent the current and future commitment of CYSA to providing the best opportunities to our players and coaches."

CYSA would like to acknowledge its wonderful partners who were instrumental in bringing this national event to Northern California, the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Sacramento Sports Commission and the City and County of Sacramento.

Without the expertise and strong relationships CYSA has developed with these organizations this exciting event would not have been award to CYSA.

“We are honored to host this event at Cherry Island, a Sacramento County park and youth soccer complex managed by the California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA). Their success in securing this event for Sacramento demonstrates the rewards of our partnership and CYSA’s commitment to raising Sacramento's profile.” Sacramento County Supervisor, Phil Serna “The National Presidents Cup is expected to draw thousands of visiting spectators and contribute greatly to our local economy in the form of overnight lodging, meals and retail purchases”.

“I am excited that Sacramento has been selected to host the 2012 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup. It has been a long time since Northern California has hosted a Youth Soccer National Tournament.” said Steve Hammond, CEO of the Sacramento Visitors and Convention Bureau, “I’m looking forward to watching some of this competition and the opportunity it will bring for future high level youth soccer in Sacramento.”

Sacramento Mayor, Kevin Johnson, upon hearing the news stated “When these athletes and their families visit Sacramento in July of 2012, there will be a lot of family-friendly activities for them to explore. The California State Fair will have just started, the Sacramento Rivercats AAA Baseball team will be battling it out for another National title, and all of our historical points of interest will be open; Old Sacramento, the State Capitol, Sutter’s Fort and numerous other attractions. Only one team will win the Championship, but everyone is guaranteed to Discover Gold while in Sacramento!”
