Chairman’s Message

Greetings players, parents and fellow members of the California Youth Soccer Association. The spring and summer of 2011 are providing the usual excitement that surround the CYSA Cups and Tournaments. New champions are being crowned and new rivalries are being formed. The sweet smell of grass and the warmth of the all-weather fields are signaling that the “competition has begun” for youth soccer in Northern California.

Plans are being finalized to host the US Youth Soccer KOHL’S American Cup in Cal North this season. The US Youth Soccer KOHL’S American Cup will provide our recreational youth soccer players with an opportunity to experience a consistent and high-quality statewide tournament in a fun, family-like atmosphere. This will be a special event for our recreational membership.

Plans have been finalized to host the US Youth Soccer National Youth License Course this year. The National Youth License is designed to provide directors of coaching, youth coaches and administrators with the knowledge to successfully structure soccer environments for children aged 4-12. Further details are available on the CYSA web site and in Soccer Cal.

The CYSA Cal Soccer League (CCSL) is currently offering competition for its Spring season. The major CCSL Fall season is opening registration this month (April) and expectations are that it will exceed the tremendous success it achieved last season. Many new teams are signing up with levels of competition being offered for all levels of competitive teams throughout all nine CYSA Districts.

The CYSA Board of Directors and the Cal South Board of Directors met in San Francisco earlier this month and continued strengthening our relationship. Many projects were approved and are currently being implemented jointly between the two state associations. These include a California State Tournament of Champions, joint marketing ventures involving both Cal North and Cal South and the development of an elite player identification program involving college selection and scholarships.

An additional California State Recreational Championship Tournament Series is also being discussed and developed, with plans for possible implementation during the 2012 playing season. Additional information will be available in the future on the CYSA web site and in Soccer Cal.

In closing, let me once again thank you for the opportunity to serve you and the youth soccer players of the California Youth Soccer Association.
